IPL Photorejuvenation

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

IPL is not a laser but a light device that uses filters to determine what wavelengths of light are delivered. It does what lasers do (It smells like a laser, it tastes like a laser, in all practicality it is a laser). IPL technology improves the appearance of photoaged skin, removes age spots (sun-induced freckles), most benign brown pigments, and redness caused by broken capillaries through a process called photorejuvenation for face and body.

It targets both pigment (in moles, freckles/blemishes, sun damaged skin, age spots) and hemoglobin in blood vessels (spider veins). A series of IPL Skin Treatments using Photorejuvenation helps restore a more youthful appearance without the patient downtime.

The treatment consists of the noninvasive application of intense pulsed light (IPL) to the skin. Generally, five or more treatments, spaced approximately three weeks apart, are required to see results. Treatment is performed in our office following application of an anesthetic cream to the skin. Unlike more invasive procedures, there is no “down time” with IPL treatment so you may resume normal activities immediately.

What Conditions Can IPL Improve?

IPL therapy effectively treats the following conditions:

  • Redness and dilated blood vessels of the face, neck, and chest
  • Flushing
  • Rosacea
  • Hyperpigmentation or irregular pigmentation on the face, neck, chest, and hands
  • Fine wrinkling
  • Coarse skin with large pores
  • Lax skin

IPL Photorejuvination Skin Treatment

Our new Intense Pulse Light (IPL) Laser technology is a treatment breakthrough that can correct a variety of benign skin conditions, through Photorejuvination.  Correction of facial skin imperfections such as, the signs of aging, birthmarks, Rosacea unsightly small veins, brown spots and broken capillaries.  It also improves brown spots and sun damage on the face, neck, arms, and hands.  It offers a safe, non-invasive solution to providing superior cosmetic results and outstanding satisfaction.

Dr. Al Rustom's Medical & Day Care Surgery Centre is pleased to offer a new, safe and effective way to eradicate red facial veins, red facial flushing, irregular pigmentation, and fine facial lines. Wrinkles are caused by a host of factors including loss of collagen and elastin, sun damage, smoking, alcohol use and hormonal changes. In addition, as we age fine facial blood vessels and irregular areas of hyperpigmentation often appear on facial and non-facial skin exposed to sun.

Our new Intense Pulsed Light Photo Rejuvenation system is designed to combat the effects of sun and aging in a softer and gentler way. Using our advanced IPL system, light energy is delivered through the skin removing facial redness, erasing pigmented spots, reducing pore size and minimizing fine lines. A series of five or six treatments are given at 3-4 weeks intervals. This procedure is associated with only mild discomfort and postoperatively patients may note facial pinkness, which may be covered with makeup. Patients can return to work or resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure. In addition this Intense Pulsed Light system can be used to safely treat aging and photo damaged skin on the neck, chest and hands.

After one or two treatments, your skin will have more even tone and a smoother look and feel. Sunspots will start to fade and pores will become less apparent. Fine lines and wrinkles will soften over time. These improvements continue with each treatment. Patient with acne rosacea will see a reduction in facial redness as a result of each treatment.

The best candidates for this procedure are patients with rosacea, red flushed faces secondary to acne rosacea, facial blood vessels and capillaries, sun damaged skin, pigmented facial spots and enlarged pores.
